Cy Theriault

Sep 12th 1937 — Sep 3rd 2023 (85 years)

Biography

Cyril Joseph Theriault went to rest peacefully on September 3, 2023 at the Regina General Hospital. He was born September 12, 1937 in Mutrie, Saskatchewan, the son of Gabrielle Marie Oudot and Ferdinand Theriault. Cy and his 6 brothers spent their early life at a working farm where they made many cherished memories. Their family moved into the city in 1954 where he attended high school at Balfour Tech and Campion College. Shortly after high school, he married his sweetheart, Priscilla (Spock). Cy and Priscilla enjoyed their younger years in the early 60’s by going to dances, movies and even shared a couple of Cokes and a bag of chips to celebrate their engagement. The two of them were blessed to have 2 daughters, Shannon and Sheryl, that they raised in Regina. Cy lived his life committed to providing to his family. He spent a majority of his professional life working for the City of Regina Taxation and Assessment. In the year 2000, Cy and Priscilla settled down in Regina Beach, where they loved the community and of course, the beach. He had many passions and loved travelling with his family - some of the highlights being a family trip when they were a young family to Disneyland and camping at Waskisu, travelling yearly in their retired age to Arizona, and visiting his daughter Sheryl and her family in Spokane, Washington. A few of his many hobbies included cars (and detailing them), fishing and bird hunting, playing golf at the Regina Beach Golf Club- of which he was a member on the board. He also enjoyed using his metal detector along the Regina Beach to find hidden treasures, and polishing anything he could. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time surrounded by family and spoiling his beloved dog, Cleo. Cy was very proud of his grandchildren and loved being a supportive grandpa by attending their plays, baseball games, and watching gymnastics. Cy was a very well-loved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, friend, and man of faith. He will be remembered for his witty demeanour, his gift of story telling, being a sharp dresser, and his love for his family. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Priscilla Theriault of Regina Beach; daughters, Shannon (Greg) and Sheryl (Mitch); brothers, Robert (Roz), Raymond (Vicky), and Lawrence (Cathy); grandchildren, Emmalea, Danielle, Elizabeth, Halle, and Michael; with many other family members and friends. He is predeceased by: his father Ferdinand, his mother Gabrielle Marie, his brothers Daniel, Marcel and Harvey, and his beloved Brittany-Spaniel Cleo. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, respiratory department - especially Damien, Dr. Belak, and other nurses and staff on the SICU with the Regina General Hospital for all their help and support. As per his wishes, Cy will be cremated and a service will be organized at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Lung Society https://donate.lungsask.ca Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on the snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.

I’ll never forget what a kind, generous, and goofy grandfather he was. I have more memories of him getting scraped up trying to keep up with us grandkids than I can count! He told the best stories and was always the best dressed grandpa wherever he went. I’ll carry these memories with me everywhere I go and do everything in my power to honor his memory each day. Happy heavenly birthday grandpa! I’ll love you forever💕

Years and years of pheasant hunting, playing golf and pool bound us not only as friends but as father and son. He was incredibly kind, fun loving, and had the worlds worst slice in golf. I tried very hard to fix that, if for no other reason than to mix him up so that I might win every once in a while ;) Even though, I will shed tears, I will keep in my heart what a good father is because of him.
