Darrell Fowler

Darrell Fowler

Dec 30th 1951 — Nov 23rd 2022 (70 years)

Biography

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Darrell Harry Fowler, aged 70, on November 23, 2022 from a rare type of cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and beloved furry walking companion, Tasha. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Francine (Roussel) Fowler, daughter Melanie (Kevin) MacMullin, son Eric, brother Steve (Sally) and nephews, Mark (Melanie) and Chad (Sarah). He is also survived by his father-in-law, Claude Roussel (Raymonde) and sisters-in-law Denise, Claire (Marty), Suzanne (Gilles), Huguette (Danny), Sylvie (Guy), Sonia and several in-law nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Georgie (Dixon) and his father, Harry Borden Fowler. Darrell grew up in Oxford, Nova Scotia and was fortunate to have many friends in the community. He was very active in a great variety of sports including baseball, hockey, basketball, soccer, and curling. Lake swimming and river fishing were only a bicycle ride away. In 1972, Darrell graduated from Mount Allison University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Economics. His first job, following university, was as a Statistical Research Officer with the Department of Energy Mines and Resources in Ottawa. Darrell later held marketing and sales positions across Canada from Halifax to Vancouver, as well as Hawaii and Australia. In 1990, Darrell started a career as a Financial Planner where he truly enjoyed helping his clients design a financial plan specific to their needs. He incorporated his business as “Designed for You” Financial Strategies in 2008 and retired in September 2022. Darrell enjoyed many different past times which included traveling, curling (member of Lakeside Curling Club), sailing (long standing crew member with Captain Roland Bourdage), history, long walks with his dogs, and karaoke (which he was known for his jazzy renditions of Louis Armstrong). He will be remembered for his trademark laugh, his infectious smile, and witty jokes. He was adventurous in his approach to life and career, and truly lived life to the fullest. He was also a devoted husband and father who supported his family in all their endeavours. We are sincerely grateful for the professional and caring approach that Cindy Bell and the rest of the palliative care team provided us during these difficult times. Celebration of life will take place in a few weeks with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I knew Darrell from curling at Lakeshore Curling Club and he was one of my favourite guys to curl with and against. Always a smile no matter how the game was going and as I used to say to him: have fun because if you win or lose: no pay raise, no promotion, no demotion and they can't fire you. Keep smiling and be with all curlers on those draws to the buttons, we all need the help. HURRY HARD

Am still in disbelieve to hear the news of Darrell's passing. The memories of working with him at Sun Tower will remain fresh in our minds forever. Darrell was not only so upbeat and positive but was the glue that kept the group together. His willingness to share his knowledge and ideas did not go unnoticed. The world is a better place because Darrell spent time in it and his wisdom and laughter will be with everyone who was lucky enough to know him forever. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Darrell and I started our financial careers together with the same firm.

He was a real gentleman.

He became an instant friend as soon as we were introduced to each other.

We worked together with clients on many occasions.

We were learning together and encouraging each other.

We last chatted some time ago on the Bedford waterfront while he was out walking with his dog.

Francine and family, you will be in our thoughts and prayers during the coming days.

I am so saddened to learn about Darrell’s passing. We were great pals during our Mount Allison years- then sailed the Northumberland Strait, and I was given the great honour to be a groomsman at his and Francine’s wedding. Sadly our paths have not crossed much in later years. But wonderful, fun memories remain.

He was a great guy.

What a shock to read this. I was wondering why I didn't see him at the rink this fall. Darrell was one of my favorite curling friends. We used to arrive at the rink at the same time which was later than most! One of the other woman and I used to tease him every time he shot his rocks, by telling him he had great form! He was a great curler and had such a wonderful smile. Sending sympathy and hugs to his family.
