Biography

David Jackson was born January 26, 1948, in Deep River, Ontario. David’s father Norman and mother Edna, along with baby Alan came to Canada from England post WWII returning to England in the early 50s. David’s love for Canada never truly left and as newlyweds David and Sue returned to Canada in 1975 settling in Gimli Manitoba after a cross country camping adventure. They moved to Selkirk, Manitoba where their son Alexander (AJ) and daughter Claire were born. Their adventures continued when they moved to Ontario, living in Brampton, and finally settling in Richmond Hill where they spent most of their time raising their children. Retirement took them to Etobicoke where a passion for sailing allowed them to own a boat and sail Lake Ontario and travel south into the US through the intercostal waterways. A brief stop in Barrie and a final destination in Pefferlaw where they found a small house where they were able to plant new trees and David could continue his love for birds with multiple feeders and a large space to enjoy watching them. David’s early love of art and illustration led him to a career as a technical illustrator. Working on technical drawings from tractors, cars, and even faucets, his drive to continue developing his craft, love to innovate, and creative skill all led him to become a Graphic Designer and running his own business. At the end of his career he continued to expand his learning working with 3D modeling and prototyping. His work led to many long lasting friendships which continue today, and the passion for art, creativity and innovation can be seen in his children. David’s passion for the outdoors and everything it offered led to many adventures with his wife and children. Either camping as newlyweds or exploring Ontario with his family, David loved to be outdoors. He was an ardent bird lover, photographer, sailor and involved his friends and family in all his passions. David was also very involved in local politics offering his time during elections building many friendships along the way, the highlight taking his children to meet then Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and family. David was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and became a doting father-in-law to Jen and grandfather to two adoring grandkids Liam and Kieran. Throughout his life he shared wisdom, love and unique compassion. While being a strong leader to his children, he also provided this with his work and friendships. David dedicated his time passing on his endless knowledge to children, friends and co-workers. With almost 50 years of marriage Sue and David were a package full of love, offering friendship and support to many. David, Sue, AJ and Claire were a close unit. With both of their extended family in England, they built support and friendships in work, church life and cottage life. With a well-built, and bold personality it was hard not to love him. A celebration of Davids life will be held on Sunday June 18th at the Aurora Armoury from 1 to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CAMH in support of Mental Health and the Canadian Cancer Society for Cancer Research.
