David Mudry

Feb 24th 1962 — Mar 14th 2023 (61 years)

Biography

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of David John Mudry aged 61 of Regina, SK on Tuesday March 14, 2023.  He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Mudry, brother Tom Mudry, uncle and close friend John Stronski (Gloria). Dave will be lovingly remembered by his three children Jake, Tyler, and Matt Mudry; sister Marilyn (Stan) Laustch; beloved friend Laurie Auckland and her children Sarah, Kylee, Gray and family; cousin Maureen Mudry; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special colleagues. Dave grew up in Swift Current, SK and later attended the University of Saskatchewan where he completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. Throughout his 40 year career, he lived and worked in Swift Current, Calgary, Moose Jaw, and Regina. Along the way he made many connections and had a way of making his colleagues feel more like friends. It was during his time in Calgary that Dave fell in love with the beauty and peacefulness of the mountains and the Bow River valley, which later became an inspiration for his artwork. He was a creative soul and true artist who tried his hand in many things including photography, drawing and painting.  His medium of choice was water-colour and his favourite subjects were landscapes and all things nature. He used his artistic talents to put his feelings and thoughts to paper. Dave’s photographs and paintings will be lasting legacies for family and friends to remember him by.   He enjoyed sunsets, calm days and hockey games. He was one of few WHL fans to have both a Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats jersey hanging in his closet. Dave had a passion for music and attended many concerts over the years; he especially enjoyed hard-rock music. He loved cooking as much as he loved eating and spent many hours in the kitchen or watching the food network. One never left a meal shared with Dave without a full belly and full heart. Anyone who knew him would agree Dave loved to make people laugh. He had a dark sense of humour and would always be the first to laugh at his own jokes. He was a kind, generous, compassionate, non-judgemental soul and was always available as an ear to listen. All he ever wanted in return was a big hug. Truly, Dave was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed. As an expression of sympathy, take a moment to spread kindness and joy. Whether its taking a loved one out for a meal, paying for a stranger’s coffee, or spending quality time with people who fill up your cup. Life is fleeting; celebrate each day as the gift that it is and remember to tell your people that you love them. Oy!   Honouring his wishes, a small memorial celebration will be held and announced at a later date.

Notes of Condolences about David

I’ve hesitated in drafting my memories of Dave. I think that by writing these memories down, I’m acknowledging that he’s actually gone. And, I don’t want to do that!

Dave was my 1st real friend. I met him when I was 3, and he was 2 1/2. Mom was bringing me home from church and Dave was playing on his front lawn with his Mom, Mary. Our Moms started chatting, and so did Dave and I. His family lived 2 doors down from my home, so either he would come to my house or I to his, and we’d play. Another friend, Jim Wall, lived at the end of our block. Together, over the years (as children and then adults) together we shared so much. We played road hockey, tag football, hide and seek, Dave’s race cars in his basement, assorted other games, rounders, we went to Roughrider games with Marilyn & Tom, and, as we grew into our teens, a great deal of mischief. Over the years Dave, Jim, and I shared joy, anguish, pain, sorrow, anger, grief, frustration, embarrassment ; but mostly a great deal of fun and love. Dave stood up for me at my wedding. I stood up for him, when he was going through really dark periods in his life. I remember Dave playing ‘Smoke on the water’ on his Fender guitar. I remember curling with Dave when he wore a Philadelphia Flyers’ Dave Schultz jersey, with a smoke hanging from his mouth while flailing his foam curling broom, and hoping his ashes wouldn’t alter the path of my curling rock. I remember the fishing trip with Dave, his Dad (Frank), and Jim, where Frank lost his wallet and we had to figure out a way to make things work through the remainder of the week. As we got older and had families, we shared time together in Calgary and Moose Jaw.

I miss you Dave! Thank you for being my friend. RIP buddy 💗

Met Dave when he worked in the pharmacy at VVC, then through the years he always ended up working in pharmacies that I used , the latest being Shoppers Dug mart in Regina.

We had lots of laughs together and shared stories, and he would always say, what we hear at the pharmacy stays at the pharmacy...

I good guy!! RIP

I am Dave's oldest cousin on the Stronski side of our families. Dave would greet me in phone conversations by saying "Hi old cousin". We discussed many subjects in those conversations - the main one for Dave was his children. He was so proud of the talents, personalities, quirks, accomplishments of Jake, Tyler and Matt and they were always the first topic of conversation. Dave enjoyed listening to my stories of his siblings when they were young children and the ones about our Uncles John & Eugene as I knew the uncles when they were teenagers, way before Dave was born! Occasionally he reluctantly spoke about himself, when his intelligence, kindness and soulful feelings surfaced.

I cherish the beautiful water colour painting he brought on a visit to Winnipeg many years ago.

You are gone too soon dear Dave; thank goodness the memories are forever.

I first met David when were both struggling with life. We made an instant bond and hung onto each other for dear life, sharing our experience, strength, and hope with others and in turn helping ourselves. We had many laughs and a few tears together. I will forever be indebted to him for being in my life when I needed someone the most. He was a kind and compassionate soul and I will miss you my friend. Until I see you again around the table at the Big Meeting, I love you and your spirit.
