Heather Anne Crawford

May 31st 1959 — May 18th 2023 (63 years)

Biography

On May 18, 2023, our night sky gained a shining star, but the earth lost a wonderful soul. Heather Anne Crawford, mother to sons Matthew Navarra (wife Liane), Ryan Navarra (wife Amanda, daughter Izzy), and husband to Brad Hubley, passed away suddenly at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Heather loved her family more than life itself; she was so proud of the young men her sons had grown into, adored their wives and cherished her granddaughter. Words simply cannot convey how much this wonderful, loving woman meant to us and our hearts are heavy with grief over our loss. The love and support extended to us by family and friends is a testament to how much she was loved by them, and we feel their pain as deeply as we feel our own. Heather's love for her family is evident by her taking early retirement to look after her own mom who was coping with the recent death of her husband of over 60 years. The two of them were an unstoppable force and always a joy to be around. Heather's sons and their wives were her best friends and she always looked forward to their sharing stories with her. Heather made time to see her friends on a regular basis and no journey was too long to take to visit them. As we begin our own journeys to heal, please hug the ones you love, tell them you love them, and never stop telling them. A Celebration of Heather's Life will be held at a future date. “If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.” ― A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh Library

I met Heather through Brad when they first started dating. My first impression was that Heather was pretty and petite, but also very intelligent and articulate. I think Brad was pinching himself at his good luck in finding her. As I got to know Heather better I discovered she was fluent in French, was extremely well-organized (no attention to detail was overlooked), adored her Mom and Dad, was a devoted friend, and had a variety of interests that included dressage and gardening. However, her pride and joy was her family, especially her two sons, their wives, and her grand-daughter. When I think of Heather I see her sitting on the couch, legs tucked under her, a glass of Chardonnay in her hand. I like to think that her spirit has joined her beloved parents.

How can I chose a memory of my dearest friend, Heather. From that first meeting Trail-riding in the Rockies as girls in our early twenties. Travelling around Ontario in a red Mazda Convertable, wishing those days could last forever. Weddings, Children, Christenings, all those special times we shared. Sitting, quietly, enjoying just being together. Whenever the opportunity came along to travel, whether to foreign shores or within our homeland, postcards would be exchanged always including the line ' Having a wonderful time. Lots of exotic birds and bugs!' Even when there weren't any! Now those times spent with this kind, loving, generous person have ended and, although the pain of her loss runs deep, I can look back and smile at all the happy times we shared. That's what she would've wanted. Rest peacefully dear girl, until we meet again.
