Biography

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jared Andrew Stevenson – better known to most as Frenchy, 70, of Blockhouse, Nova Scotia announces the end of his courageous battle with cancer on July 8, 2023, at the Fishermen’s Hospital in Lunenburg.
Frenchy was born January 10, 1953. Despite rough beginnings, Frenchy made his way through life with a positive attitude. He started fishing in Lunenburg at 17 years old and was a man of the sea from then on, working his way to Fishing Master – Second Class. He will forever be remembered by all those he fished alongside, including many friends in St. Pierre & Miquelon, where he played Santa for many years. When he wasn’t fishing, he could be spotted cruising the roads on his custom Harley Davidson. Many memories were made attending bike shows and rallies, with good friends Pat and Steven “Crofty”. He was a kind, fun, loving person; he loved to socialize and spend time with his fur babies. His many quirky mannerisms will be lovingly remembered by those who were fortunate to call him family or friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Dorthea “Vernie”, daughters; Tracy (Dave) Jones, Brandi (Shaun) Campbell, Crystal (Benjamin) Bevans, stepchildren; Shawn (Suzanne) Turner, Sharla (Dave) Hart, grandchildren; Corey, Airelle, Mathias, Noah, Thomas, and Joseph.
The family is grateful for the exemplary care provided by those in the Medical Unit at the Fisherman’s Hospital in the last days of his life, to Dr. Kenneth Rent, Dr. Robyn MacFarlane, to those in the chemo clinic at the South Shore Regional Hospital, to the palliative care team and to Nurse Practitioner Axel Saile.
There will be no visitation or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be arranged at a future date. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Medical Unit at Fishermen’s Hospital, the Oncology department at the South Shore Regional Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
