Jean-Louis Comeau
Sep 5th 1960 — Apr 7th 2023 (62 years)
Biography
Jean-Louis Joseph Comeau - Age 62, of Brookside, Hatchet Lake, formerly of Meteghan River, passed away Friday, April 7, 2023. Born in Schefferville, Québec, son of Désiré Comeau and the late Blanche Comeau (Melanson). He took carpentry at Yarmouth Vocational School, and upon graduating, his career started at A.F. Theriault Shipyard. He joined the carpenters union in 1981, contributing to many significant building projects, including the Annapolis Royal Tidal Generating Station, Dartmouth Civic Centre, and Halifax World Trade Nova Centre. For over 25 years, he was employed by LEAD Structural Formwork as a carpenter and foreman. Many will remember him as a beloved friend, a father figure, and a well-respected coworker. Jean-Louis valued family, friendship, positivity, and kindness. He truly lived his life to the fullest, with as many music festivals, camping trips, boating days, and jokes as he could pack in. He is survived by sons Jean-Luc, Serge, and Dominic and their mother, Nancy Fitzgerald; siblings Guy (Connie), Paulette, André (Karen), and Valmon (Anne); partner Janice Comeau-MacDougall; and many nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 1-5 p.m. at the Saraguay House in Purcells Cove, Halifax, at 2308 Purcells Cove Road. A service will be held in Clare at a later date. Donations can be made to the Nova Scotia Ground Search and Rescue Association.

Rest forever 62! Hockey did wonders for our kids but we all often said the parent’s benefited the most with the lifetime friendships we made. More like family all the years in the rink sharing stories laughs coffees and a cold drink on a tournament. You were one hell of a laugh Louis And you will be dearly missed by us all. BENNER BOYS always in Serges corner and Stephanie Jason Purcell always on your bench! Xo

I worked with Jean Louis over 30 years ago on a few projects. I was the greenhorn but he took me under his wing and taught me tricks of the trade. Although I haven’t seen him in many years I have many fond memories. A true gentleman and genuine - kind hearted soul. RIP

Jean-Louis was one of the most formative parental figures in my life. I met him on a sunny afternoon, shortly after his son, Serge and I met. Louis smiled his gentle smile, cracked a joke, and I knew we’d form a bond. I spend many nights with Louis sitting around a fire, many days lounging around while him and Serge worked around the backyard, afternoons out on the water talking about his gratitude for this life, his pride in his boys, his dreams for his house renovations and future retirement.
Jean-Louis Made me feel seen and important, something so important for a teenager. I remember him being so proud of me when I got my first serving job, he came into the restaurant a few weeks later to cheer me on. He used to tease me for how little French I knew, we’d always joke that he’d need to start speaking exclusively in French so I’d be forced to learn. Sometimes we’d give it a try.
I was so lucky to be cared for by him and by Nancy, they embraced me like their daughter and I owe so much to their love and support.
Witnessing serges relationship with his dad was such a gift. Jean-Louis had a massive heart and poured so much joy into everyone he met. He had a contagious laugh and a calming demeanour.
I know his legacy will be carried on so beautifully by Serge and his brothers. My heart is filled with so much sympathy for his family.

Met Jean Louie early in my concrete construction career on a job in Shearwater. He was a treat to work with. He and his partner Pierre were so kind to me and offered a lot of guidance and showed me a few tricks I use to this day. I'd see him at Mooseheads games and he always remembered me though our time together was brief and many years ago. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. Hoping to live life more like Jean Louie.

Hanging around with his sister all through high school I have many memories of Jean-Louis smile that would light the world and joy would shine from his eyes. He was a kind and thoughtful brother and friend to anyone he met. A bit shy in those days, I remember his smile would put a smile on my face and feel the joy all around.
My condolences to his sons, their mother, family and friends on your loss. His soul will always be close to all who loved him. He will be missed but not forgotten. Another Angel to watch over his loved ones.

We met Jean Louis at the rink in the early years of minor hockey with Serge. He loved watching Serge play (our boys played with Serge his last year in Midgett AA). Jean Louis was fun! Full of good energy and so kind. He always greeted you with a smile. He was genuine, authentic and would help anyone who needed it. How lucky for Jean Luc, Serge & Dominic to have such a wonderful man as their father. Condolences to his entire family.

Worked with Louis on a lot of jobs from halifax to yarmouth and all in between. I run the concrete pump for Rice Concrete, Louis always had, and made time to chat with me when I'd get on site, we created a real nice friendship. He would call me whenever, and or even stop by the house on his way down the shore. I'd call him and tell him and tell him I just want to chat or when I'd be on my way to his job and if it were possible I would get him a coffee or he'd get me one. Got to work on the site with one of his sons a few times, very pleasant boy...my heart broke the day I heard of Louis accident, condolences I send to his family...if I may end this on a quote that Louis would say to me..."Brian next time you drive by, please do" love this quote but to understand it better, you have to hear it with his accent...love you Louis, thanks for the good times

So many to to pick just 1. I met JL for the first time on our frozen lake in the winter of 1990. We chatted for quite a while, later when I came into our home, I told my wife Anne, that I had just met our new neighbor from across the lake. She asked me what was he like, we'll I said I don't know, he seems too nice, he can't be real. Well he was real, he was genuine, he over the years became the brother I never had. Anyone who became his friend, was blessed.

Hockey, I had the privilege to coach Serge. Louie was a pleasure to have as a player parent. He was so down to earth and done whatever was needed for the team. One year I never coached and Louie, Myself and Bob were alway at the glass at the end of the rink. Not sure how we started it but every time our team scored the 3 Stooges would do " Gangnum Style" dance ...let's say it attracted a little attention and to the point it seemed the fans in the stands looked forward to us doing it when our team scored...or they could of been just rolling their eyes. Either way Louie was a great man and a friend anyone would love to have. You will be missed ...RIP Louie we will do one more dance for you! My condolences to Serge( who I knew best) and all the Family and friends. Gone too soon...save me a place at the end of the rink in heaven!
