Mary "Joan" Misener
Oct 31st 1941 — May 5th 2023 (81 years)
Biography
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Joan Misener, 81, who died on May 5, 2023 at Northwood in Bedford with her daughter by her side. She was born and raised in Stellarton, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ina Carroll. She was a graduate of the VG School of Nursing in Halifax and worked as a nurse in both the US and Canada. Her last nursing role was as an RN at the Wolfville Nursing Home. She was proud to be a nurse and it suited her gentle, compassionate nature. She was married for over 54 years to the love of her life, the late David Misener. They lived in Wolfville, and later spent many happy winters in Largo, FL. Before moving into Northwood in Bedford, Joan lived in Halifax with her daughter, Cindy. She was an avid bridge player and playing bridge with good friends was a big part of her social life in Wolfville. Later, playing crib replaced bridge, and she was a card shark to the very end. She was also an avid reader, always surrounded by books, and never abandoned a book once started. Our mother was kind and empathetic, and she helped others through difficult times by being a wonderful listener who would drop everything to offer her support. Joan is survived by her daughter Cindy and son Trent; sister Cheryl Munro (Brian) of Plymouth, NS; brother Tom Carroll (Pat) of Scarborough, ON; nieces Laurie Sullivan and Jan Misener; and nephews Colin Munro, Kevin Carroll, Chris Carroll and Randy Misener. A special thank you to the staff of Sandpiper Hills at Northwood in Bedford who looked after our mother during her last year. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to MS Canada.

Joan and Dave were close friends and neighbours of Peter’s brother. We were fortunate to have spent many pleasant hours with them. Joan spent much of her life smoothing the way for others. May the road home be as smooth for her. Our sincere condolences to all those who suffer her loss.
