Kuberan Rajasingham

Mar 31st 1962 — Mar 8th 2023 (60 years)

Biography

Kuberan passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 8, 2023 in Toronto, Canada. He is survived by the love of his life Tiyani (wife) and two sons, Dishan (Kristin) and Shihan (Sandra) who were the pride and joy of his life. Kuberan was the son of celebrated surgeon Dr. Albert Rajasingham and Irangani Rajasingham (nee Ilangantileke), step-brother of the late Rudra Rajasingham, Chitto Rajasingham and the late Rukmani De Croose. He loved travelling the world, which was possible through his work in the travel industry. In addition to destination vacations, he paved the way for his family to move from Sri Lanka, to Dubai and his final resting place in Canada. Kuberan had a deep love for nature, rugby and was a life-long martial arts enthusiast. He was passionate about embracing new sports and always led by example - of late he pursued Tai Chi, cycling, golf, watersports and playing the guitar. Kuberan’s thirst for current affairs, love of reggae music, and dancing is well known amongst those close to him. He valued good health above all worldly possessions and encouraged everyone who knew him to live an active life as he did. Kuberan leaves a legacy that was deeply grounded in Christian faith and unyielding moral values with which, he helped colleagues, friends, and family alike. Those who knew him best, will take comfort in knowing that he is now resting on that eternal beach in the sun, with a Guinness in hand and a smile on his face! There will be a celebration of life for family and friends as follows: Friday, March 31, 2023 from 11:30am to 3:00pm - The Meadowvale Village Hall, 6970 Second Line w, Mississauga In lieu of flowers, a tribute to Kuberan can be made by donating to https://trilliumgiving.ca or https://uhnfoundation.ca/

Happy Birthday, Kubba

Tiyani, Dishan & Shihan thank you for asking me to say a few words for our dear friend Kubba.

Ours was a friendship that began 50+ years ago at our home away from home - Trinity College, Kandy. Sri Lanka. A friendship that was built on Trinity values & most importantly the boarding culture where we were all friends and constantly watching out for each other, but most of all we stood up for each other.

Pradeep, Ana, Kubba & I were of the same batch at the boarding, blessed immensely to be living close to each other here in Canada, just like the ole days……a gift we never took for granted.

I stand here in front of you today representing the Trinity family worldwide that have constantly inquired of Kubba throughout the time since they got word of his hospitalization. After a while I just lost count of the inquiries. His Boxing buddy Tyronne Smith in SL initiated & coordinated a 3 minute self prayer covering many time zones; the entire batch group inspired each other to pray for Kubba,

I do believe in miracles and I sincerely wished one for Kubba. When it is one of your own, our minds react differently. On that context I remain confused, I get angry at times with myself for not going further - that extra mile - to help Kubba.

Devastated no doubt.

Kubba this was not part our script my friend.

Kubba was just an all-round personality, a wonderful husband, cool dad, would have topped the list for best father-in-law. A brilliant student at College, very well read, king of current affairs, loved his music, boxing, karate & tai-chi. Ultimate foodie, beach bum, riding jet skis was always on his mind, a passionate Springbok Rugby fan, our coach & mentor on fishing trips, loved his golf and never turned down a casual catch up with friends. I have too many stories to share, but in the interest of time, will share a few.

At Trinity, in Junior school Kubba was in Collins House grades 3 to 5. We would speak about a so called fight we had underneath the Collins staircase closer to the Quadrangle but to this day we never figured out what we fought over.

I recall with fondness being invited to visit with his Dad whilst he was on his rounds in Kandy. Uncle was a prominent surgeon and stayed at the Queens Hotel in the early years when he was in town. For those of us fortunate to be invited, the reward during the visit was a good feed. Kandy’s best Roast beef sandwiches, at least in the eye of a boarder.

In Grade 9 (1976) Kubba had one of the best results in the NCGE examinations. He won the English medium class prize that year and carried away another for Health & Physical Education, says a lot of his multi talents.

We played U17 rugby together at College and one of his regrets was that he was not able to continue his Rugby.

After school, Kubba moved onto KLM and Dubai and the next we were in touch was when he came and stayed with us whilst doing his landing paperwork in Canada. It was good to have him home with us but the pain point was that he would insist that I go with him on long walks, daily.

We were happy when he finally decided to come and settle in Canada. He wasn’t a fan of the cold & harsh winters but he would say he made that sacrifice for you, Dishan & Shihan, and well done guys, he was so very proud of you both.

We did a lot of things together as a group. We will miss getting that Friday afternoon call checking on weekend plans, which most times end up at a pub to listen to some music, the occasional Bibim-bap feed or a visit to the SL restaurant for an Egg gotha with beef pepper fry. A crab feed was another meal Kubba favoured. Golf most weekends in the summer also meant a beer & a bite on a patio. Sometimes on a nice day at short notice he would swing by for a swim and indulge in some food.

Fishing trips will not be the same without Kubba. He never gave up on us slow learners! He kept his youthful looks. One time a visiting former school teacher thought he was my son – that’s how young he looked and he reminded me of that every now and then.

We are coping with this tragedy in our own way and the days ahead aren’t going to be easy, but knowing Kubba he wouldn’t want us to dwell in the past but would want us to move on.

Kubba we will miss you …………until we catch up again.

Life only gives you a few true friends, and you get to keep them even after the end. Without a shadow of a doubt, you were one of those Kubs and you rank right up there. For 35+ years of our lives, we were profoundly connected professionally and personally. Until the few weeks before you surprisingly bid farewell, our conversations were genuine, always cheerful, and resilient. Pinky and I have had the fondest memories of knowing you so closely. Until we meet again! Thank you and rest well my friend.

Kuberan was a big part of my childhood. Especially in my teens with Kubba trying out Juddo, finishing the food, breaking papaw trees and not to forget flying boonga kites. For me to write memories would be impossible as I would not have enough time or space to do so.

He was my brother, a part of my everyday life, in and out of my house etc. Up to date I am a happy human being thanks to Kubba being in my life.

All I can say is growing up without a Kubba in my life would have never been the same. I am going to miss him like crazy.

Love you Kubba always and forever.

Tiyani, Dishan and Shihan,

I am a firm believer of what I read many moons ago which I still remember that every life is created equal but how it is lived for others that makes one different and makes the person unique.

Don’t know if these were the exact words but I always equate the saying “living for others” is a mantra that Kuberan taught and exercised every day.

I remember Kuberan tackling a difficult passenger at the airport and calming the situation. I marveled at the simplicity and the uniqueness of this great person. To make a connection with another person be it with humour, courage or strength is a quality to always be admired.

I have procrastinated in writing a few words, I could not accept the reality that Kubba is no longer with us. Never did I think I would ever be in this situation. .

I have to had to reflect on a few great quotes to draw inspiration to pen a few words about my very close and dear friend Kubba. We have as a family enjoyed the pleasure of having known Kubba and whilst we now know he is no longer with us on this earth his greatest moments & memories will forever survive.

Friendship transcends death. Memories made will never be forgotten and created a lasting impression on each and everyone of us that he has left behind. I know we have all become better people for having such a wonderful friend.

Lastly. I would like to quote from Ernest Hemingway.

"Saying goodbye isn't for us. Instead, I will say that I look forward to seeing my friend again, each time I am reminded of him/her through a phrase, a joke, even an article of clothing. These are the things that will keep us close despite death."

“If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.”

― Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms

Dear Kubs, we will miss you my friend but I can assure you, you will never be far away from us because your memories will forever be with us in almost everything we do. Finally, there is one thing we as a family will never hear again and that is you calling out "Ah Sandy!!! What is that? " whenever there is some food being passed around. Love you my dear friend and may you rest in peace in Gods arms.

Our heartfelt condolences to the loving family he has left behind.

God bless…. we will always be there for you.

My brother and dearest friend,

I have no words to express my sadness. .. just the memories and your voice in my inner ear....

It was just a few days before we had that hilarious video call,... And the next day... time stood still 😞..

It is well known that I was closer to you than my own siblings, as you were always there for me, no matter what, and I too shared your ups and downs in life since the mid 70's.

Sadly I couldn't visit you or be with you this time for reasons you and I know too well...

However we will meet again, and I will hold your sweet memory close to my heart always. I will be with Dishan and Shihan and they still have me.

I have no more tears in me, for I have shed more than most in life ..you were the only one who stood by me, and I know you will continue to do so from heaven... Hug my darling daughter Natasha... Keep her beside you... Till we meet again... I love you bro, 💞

Dearest Tiyani,

We are lost for words; A part of our life has been snatched away . We will miss Kuberan dearly.

To Russell, Kuberan was a brother, a treasured friend, a Mentor, a Buddy, and his passing has left a big void in his life, He is going to miss having a drink with Kuberan , be it getting good advice, discussing current affairs or reminiscing good old stories from KLM days.

Russell and I will always cherish our time spent together, our BBQ meet ups, our crazy parties , that random evening meet up and the laughter We’ve shared throughout the years. We are ever so grateful for the good times we have shared with him. Kuberan was the kindest soul with the warmest heart. He was larger than life and we will forever hold on to these memories.

Wishing you and the boys/girl’s comfort and strength in the coming days and months knowing that Kuberan is resting in peace with Jesus in Paradise.

Kubs and I met in 1988 when I joined KLM in Dubai and we hit it off instantly, but then Kubs easily got on well with everyone. There wasn't a single day at work where we didn't have a good laugh mostly at our own "bloopers"... of which there were many.

Kubs always had a kind and often humorous word for everyone. He treated everyone with the same respect and dignity, regardless of their position. He never spoke ill of anyone, even of people that drove him up the wall. It wasn't like he was oblivious to people's flaws; he simply chose not to dwell on them and focus on the good instead. With his smile and wit, Kubs had a way of making everything seem okay, even when it wasn't.

He was much more than a friend and I will miss our monthly chats, but I will always hold his memory close to my heart. To Tiyani, Dihan, and Shihan, may God bless you with the strength you need to get through this very difficult time. I hope you all find some comfort in knowing how much Kubs meant to everyone who knew him.

Rest in peace, my "old father". You'll be very much missed, but never ever forgotten.

Good old memories from Dubai during his tenure in KLM. May his soul rest in peace. We will include him in our prayers

Kubs was not just a fantastic neighbor he was more than a very good friend he was like family, we shared many stories and laughed constantly.

He was loved by all and will be sadly missed but not forgotten. God bless my friend until we meet again

Kubs was a great soul. I was extremely measured with my English sentences, so as to not blooper with him around or on the phone. I talked to him so often during Kubs pursuing Salesforce certs in 2021. Awesome guy & true pal. Cheers mate. RIP
