I thank Ray for the wonderful career and amazing life-long friends we have made along the way. He was my recruiting interviewer. From his stoic posture and presemce, to the office putting green and iconic painting, pride was at his core. You have both had immense impacts and influence on the organization we chose to cherish. I hope you continue to find comfort, support, and peace in the days, months and years to come.

In April 1990, I was privileged to transfer to the Depot Law Unit where I joined an outstanding group of colleagues: Sandy Mahon, Bob Kennedy, Pat Kamenka and Ray. Each of us loved our work, the joy of seeing the Recruits’ lights come on when they understood what we were teaching (yes, it was a long time ago when Recruits were Recruits, not Cadets) and our individual personalities meshed in a way that one can only hope for, yet not always realize. Ray was a big force in that Unit, accomplishing that by being quiet & steady, and as many on this page have remarked, quick-witted. And he was kind. Really kind. We worked out a lot of stuff in the basement during winter or out the back door of the Academic building in summer, smoking during breaks….Ray sucking on his pipe and me with a Player’s Extra Light cigarette (or two!). Our paths intersected for a number of years and I admired and respected him very much. He will be so missed by his family. Brenda, I’m so sorry for the time you won’t have with Ray and I know he will be with you all the way.

Some of my fondest memories of Depot involve Ray......and my most memorable road trip in the RCMP was to the Czech Republic with Ray and two other colleagues. The countless hours we spent together afforded me the opportunity to get to know Ray on a different level. His sense of humour was infectious and his passion for whatever he did was inspiring. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to speak with Ray just before Christmas to simply get caught up and to reminisce about that trip and Depot days.
While working in the staffing and personnel units and trying to accommodate every members wishes, he would always joke saying that on his headstone he would have the simple engraving "suitably posted". Not only did it attest to his dry sense of humour, it spoke to his approach to life and his career.....not to overthink things, to look at the positive side, and to live for the day.
We will cherish all the positive memories as we reflect on Ray's life...
To Brenda and all Ray's family.....may your memories of him live on and we offer our condolences.

My deepest condolences to Brenda and family. I worked with Ray at Depot Div for many years, but my favorite memory of Ray was at the Depot Golf Tournament held at the Royal Regina. Ray was in a foursome just in front of us with his pipe going hard with a huge smile on his face. He was enjoying life and it impacted me. May Ray rest in peace.

As is so evident from these many condolences, Ray’s loss will be felt by many, a reach extending well beyond the Gauthier and Lucki families. Ray was one of my (favourite) instructors at Depot, a standout even in an impressive cadre. Respectful, supportive, progressive and amusing, he was to me a true professional with a genuine interest in the recruits and a man of, but not consumed by, the RCMP. I was fortunate to have met him. May the certainty that he was such a positive influence on so many be some comfort to his family in a truly difficult time.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear of Ray's passing. He was my law instructor at Depot - I really admired his teaching ability and his humor. He once explained something using a Venn diagram that I was having trouble absorbing. I asked if he would mind explaining it another way....he replaced the circles with squares - full of witt! Loved his company and enjoyed sharing a couple of quality hours with him at my grad dinner. Many condolences to all his family and friends. He was one of the best! He will be missed.

I remember Ray best when he and Brenda transferred from Depot to Manitoba, and Ray became i/c Staffing. The team got along well. My favourite memories were when I visited their home in Landmark and Ray showed off his most recent carpentry project. Furniture, toys for grandchildren, little inventions, sometimes a pile of sawdust. He could do anything, and would show them off with a shy smile, like a parent displaying a new baby.

The following year I was chosen to be an exchange instructor for a six-month period. Ray and Brenda were my welcome wagon and to help me adjust to the R.C.M.P. society. A wonderful friendship started, and I followed them through their travels and careers. I have always thought of my time at Depot to be a highlight of my career, because of the people.
